Kratom Effects

Kratom Effects

When discussing the various kratom effects, the key is to always remember it affects everyone differently. What this means is every person is just as unique as each individual strain of kratom. While a typical dose may make one person feel sleepy or relaxed, the exact same dose for someone else may cause excitement or excessive energy. The most common effects are discussed below, along with other long term effects reported by users of this supplement.

What is Kratom?

Kratom, mitragyna speciosa, is a finely ground powder concocted from the leaves and stems of a deciduous evergreen tree exclusive to the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Kratom has been used for centuriess by the natives as a powerful holistic alternative for treating pain, relieving anxiety, and as an anti-diarrheal. Kratom is also known for its energetic properties and the somewhat euphoric feeling it causes the user. For that reason, the Food and Drug Administration and the Drug Enforcement Agency both have been waging a senseless war here in America.  Perhaps it is due to the fact millions of individuals are tossing opioids aside and choosing kratom powder as a healthier substitute to deadly prescription medications. With so many people avoiding harmful pharmaceuticals, the prescription drug companies stand to lose millions of dollars in annual revenue. Kratom has also been a powerful ally in battling the withdrawls from opioids because it binds on the delta and mu opioid receptors located in the brain, leaving the user feeling similar effects of some narcotic pain medications.

Strains

There are countless strains of kratom, each producing a unique experience for the user. There are truly just three main strains: green, red, and white. Many vendors promote other strains such as yellow or gold, and even purple has been added to the vast amount of strains available for purchase. A good way to remember which strain does what is Red for Bed, White for Flight, and Green for In Between. Red strains are known to be more relaxing and are great for relieving anxiety and promoting calmness. White strains are very energizing and are used for energy and mental clarity. Green strains are a perfect mixture of both, and are the most favorited among all users. Green strains are also excellent for relieving chronic pain without beingoverly sedating.

Effects

Every individual is different, and kratom effects vary. What we do know about mitragyna speciosa as of now is purely anecdotal and concluded through case studies. Dosing will greatly affect how kratom reacts to the user also. Small doses, when ingested, will create a more energetic feeling, and include:

In larger doses kratom acts more like a Central Nervous System depressant and include:

General Effects

Long-term and Adverse Effects

Some users have even reported kidney problems associated with long term use, such as kidney stones and frequent urinary tract infections. Kratom is very hard on the kidneys because they have to work overtime to filter out the numerous alkaloids found within the kratom. Plenty of water should always be taken while using kratom to prevent any issues with the kidneys.

Other long term effects that have been reported include hallucinations and psychosis, delusions and extreme confusion. Tachycardia, or fast heart rate, is also reported among long term users at higher doses. Seizures are reported as well. One case shows when kratom is combined with modofinil it can cause seizures. Always be careful when combining kratom with any prescription drug or over the counter medication. When unsure about how kratom will react with other medications or supplements, it is always best to ask your physician. Or to be safest…do not combine them at all. It is always best to be overly cautious when taking any medication or supplement.
